What a busy couple of weeks!!! As you may have noticed I have neglected my blog and I am sorry. However, I have been busy shooting and editing so there will be a surge of incoming posts as I play catch up. Since my last post, I have had a couple of firsts that in a way has altered and helped me develop my style as a photographer. For instance, a couple of weeks ago (July 4th, 2009), it was my first time shooting as a principle photographer on behalf of Margaret…technically that is partially true…as I was the principal photographer on Margaret’s behalf for Polly and Tommy’s wedding last October. Although I carried similar responsibilities, it was still an eye opening experience. It was just, different…as the principle photographer, you need to see things differently, look for good light and for every time the shutter is pressed, you need to know exactly why you are making the image and how it will be used. Lastly, as a principal photographer, you really need to trust your second photographer. In many instances, I caught myself wearing the hat of the second photographer in addition to the principal photographer even though I had Lucy to help me out as a second shooter. I could not help it. I think it’s really because I like catching the candid moments.
Furthermore, I was reminded of the importance of an engagement shoot. Because I was shooting this on behalf of Margaret, I did not have the luxury of really getting to know Erin and Jeff and how they would react in front of my camera. We had to try a few things and learned about each other on the fly which was challenging, but I think I did succeed in the end as they were comfortable with me and were willing to just do what I asked…within reason of course. This is so important to getting great pictures. In any case, I was blessed with great weather, Lucy to assist me and of course, a great couple to work with. Congrats Erin and Jeff, thank you for letting me share your special day with you. Here are a couple of my favorites.
Great job as primary Kevin.
